Following on from being celebrated at last months Rochford District Sports Awards, it was another gala evening for the District's sports stars at the Essex Sports Awards held at the Mill Arts and Events Centre.

Hard on the heels of winning Young Sports Personality of the Year last month, Rebecca Terry won in the same category at the county awards. There were also awards for Jo-Jo Cranfield, who was crowned Paralympic Hopeful, and Brian Dawbarn who was recognised in the Services to Sport category. Rayleigh Cricket Club were also recognised, finishing as runners up in the Community Club of the Year award.

It caps a fantastic couple of months for some of the sporting stars from the Rochford District. Speaking after the awards presentation, Rebecca Terry said: “I am delighted to win such a prestigious award against such strong candidates in other sporting categories.”

Rochford District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Tourism, Heritage, the Arts, Culture and Business, Councillor Keith Gordon, said: “These awards are a fantastic boost for our District’s sports stars, they fully deserve the recognition they have received both last month at the Rochford District Sports Awards and last night at the Essex Sports Awards.

It is so pleasing that the hard work and effort that they put in to try and be the best they can in their chosen sport is honoured in this way and I wish them every success in the future.”
