Weddings at the Rayleigh Windmill have just reached another milestone with the 50th ceremony taking place recently.
The Rayleigh Windmill has become immensely popular as a wedding venue since it became licenced for weddings, naming ceremonies and renewal of vows ceremonies. In fact, its reputation has spread far and wide, as Paul England, who got married at the Windmill in 2009, explains.
He said: “I met my partner Marion in 1985. She is from Germany and I moved there to be with her, we live in a small town in the Black Forest.
My sister lives in Rayleigh and we visit her every year. Marion has always loved coming over to England and adores Rayleigh, especially the Windmill. She visits it every time we come over and takes lots of photographs, she thinks it’s a beautiful, idyllic place to go.
For more than 20 years we joked that if we ever did get married the only place we could ever do it was at the Rayleigh Windmill.
We came over to England in May 2009 and visited the Windmill as we always do. Marion was reading the information board outside and she suddenly saw that the Windmill was available for weddings so that was it, I proposed and she accepted!
We got in touch with the Council who helped us organise all of it in just three months. We came back in August 2009 and had the perfect wedding. It had been a dream of my wife’s to get married at the Windmill and it had come true.
What made it all the more perfect was the help and support that we received from the team at Rochford District Council. Not only did they help us organise everything, but also on the day they were incredibly helpful as it’s an extremely nerve-wracking experience.
They helped with absolutely everything and I have to thank them because they helped so much before and during the day itself. I can’t tell you how amazing it was after enjoying the Windmill for so many years to actually get married there. It was a really special day from beginning to end.
My work colleagues in Germany all loved the photographs from the ceremony, they couldn’t believe that you could get married in a windmill! All in all it was a beautiful location and a really happy day, I can’t thank the team at the Council enough for all the help they gave us in putting it together.”
If you would like the Rayleigh Windmill to be the venue for your wedding, dates are still available. The Windmill is located next to the sensory garden and historic Rayleigh Mount, owned and managed by the National Trust – a perfect backdrop for your pictures.
Rayleigh has a host of venues for receptions and other items to help make your day extra special, including florists, jewellers, formal wedding attire and decorations.
With seating for up to 20 guests, the Windmill offers an intimate venue for your civil wedding, civil partnership, naming ceremony or renewal of vows. Several packages are available including the option to hold your reception at The Mill Arts and Events Centre adjacent to the Windmill.
