Andrew and Nicola Farmer from Rochford were among 44 cyclists who took the opportunity to have their bicycles fitted with security tags at a special tagging session held by Neighbourhood Watch.
Andrew said: “We thought it a good idea and the fitting took only a matter of minutes”.
Bikes fitted with the electronic chips – a proven deterrent to bike thieves – are more likely to be returned to their owners should they be recovered after being stolen or lost.
The implants are inserted into the frame of the bike, and each contains its own unique code which is registered on a national database with details of that particular bike and its true owner.
There are lots of bike tagging events coming up and don’t forget to keep checking the website which is updated with new events www.rochford.gov.uk/rdm
