Families will get the chance to try out sporting activities together for FREE after activerochford and activecastlepoint Community Activity Networks secured funding of £10,000 from Sport England to run a joint project.
Families that want to join in will have lots of different activities to choose from, ranging from traditional sports like tennis and cricket to activities they may not have tried before – like fencing. Each course runs for six weeks, starting in June.
The Chair of activerochford and activecastlepoint, Steve Bish, said: “Using sport as a vehicle to encourage family learning is particularly special as it’s 2012. We hope this project will inspire families to take up new sporting opportunities and have fun learning new skills together. It will involve a wide range of community partners and we all look forward to working together to ensure it is a great success”.
As the London 2012 Games are fast approaching, an Olympic themed event will take place at The Deanes School in Benfleet on Saturday 7th July with lots of sporting taster sessions on offer – the day after the Olympic Torch Relay passes through South Essex.
Information about the sessions will be available at http://www.cprssp.co.uk/ once dates have been confirmed.
