A huge audience gathered at the Mill Arts and Events Centre in Rayleigh last night (23 October), for the Rochford and Castle Point Sports Awards, sponsored by Virgin Active.
More than 150 guests heard stories of outstanding contributions by the very best of the sporting talent at the gala ceremony, with London 2012 Bronze Medallist, Chloe Rogers, from the GB Women’s Hockey team giving out the prizes and BBC Essex’s Ben Fryer compering the event.

Speaking after the awards, Chloe Rogers said: “It’s great to be part of Sports Awards evenings like this. As an athlete, being acknowledged by your local community for all the hard work and dedication you have put into a sport helps motivate you to want to make them proud and achieve even more”.
The Chairman of Rochford District Council, Councillor Mrs Barbara Wilkins, added: “Award evenings are amongst my favourite events. I would like to thank all the winners, the nominees and everyone that entered for representing the Rochford District and Castle Point Borough and putting us on the map with their high achievements in sport”.
